Your dog also needs time to become familiar with its sound and vibration. Introduce the device separately from the grooming task, and ask a groomer or veterinarian to show you appropriate nail-care technique.

Keep each contact brief. The light helps illuminate the area, but it cannot tell you how much nail to remove. Dark nails need particular care because the quick can be difficult to see.

How to use

A rotating head files the nail surface. Follow the instructions for the controls and use short contacts rather than holding the grinder in one place. Stop when your dog becomes uncomfortable or you are unsure where to continue.

Complete The Routine

For another grooming task

Learn the tool before the first nail.

You want to take care of their nails, and you’re careful about taking off too much. A grinder approaches the task gradually, filing the edge rather than making a single cut.

  • Product fact

    Replaceable diamond wheel

The wheel spins to file the nail's surface rather than cutting it in one motion. It detaches, and spare wheels are available as add-ons.

  • Product fact

    Files gradually

Small amounts come off with each pass, so you can reassess as you go.

  • Product fact

    Light, not detection

The LED lights the nail as you work. It does not identify the quick; that judgment stays with you.

  • Product fact

    USB rechargeable

Charge it with the supplied USB cable, then use it without a trailing cord.

  • Product fact

    Low noise and vibration

Specified as low noise and low vibration.

Getting started

Before the first nail

Let your dog get familiar with Aegis Pro switched on, away from their paw, before you bring it near a nail. Sound and vibration are usually the bigger adjustment, not the grinding itself, so give that its own introduction first.

First session

One nail is a complete first session

Your first session does not need to cover every nail. Try one, see how your dog responds to the sound and the light, and stop there if that is enough for the day. You can build up to the rest over several short sessions instead of one long one.

  • Introduce the sound before grinding a nail
  • One nail is a complete first session
  • Pause when your dog moves away

Right tool

Is Aegis Pro the right tool for your dog?

A grinder suits dogs who tolerate a steady buzzing sound and a small amount of vibration against the nail; some dogs adjust quickly, others need more time. If your dog has very dark nails, or you are unsure how they will respond to the sound, ask a groomer or veterinarian before your first attempt at home.

  • Files small amounts with each pass
  • Dark nails need extra care and a groomer's demonstration
  • Neither a grinder nor a clipper makes injury impossible

Your judgment

Judgment, not the light, decides when to stop

The LED lights the nail so you can see what you are doing; it does not identify the quick or tell you where to stop, that call is yours to make, nail by nail. Keep each contact brief, remove small amounts, and if you are ever unsure where the quick sits, especially on dark nails, stop and ask a groomer or veterinarian to show you the technique.

  • The LED adds light, it does not find the quick
  • Use brief contacts to avoid heat
  • Remove only small amounts

Got questions?

We have answers

How is a grinder different from clippers?
The rotating head files the nail down gradually rather than cutting it. You take off a little at a time and check as you go. That is the main difference from clippers, which cut the nail in one go, so the grinder suits owners who prefer to work in small, careful steps.
Is it loud?
Aegis Pro is specified as low noise and low vibration, but every dog notices sound differently, so we cannot promise how yours will react. Let your dog hear it switched on before you start, and keep the first session short.
What about dark nails?
Dark nails make it harder to judge how short is safe. Ask a groomer or veterinarian to show you the technique before using the grinder, and remove only small amounts at a time. The light does not remove this need for care, so go slowly and check the nail often.
Can I use it on a puppy?
Check the puppy's size, nail condition and suitability with a groomer or veterinarian. Ask for a demonstration before a first attempt rather than relying on age alone. Go slowly, take off only a little at a time, and stop if you are unsure about a nail or how your puppy is coping.
How long should I keep it on one nail?
Use brief contacts following the product instructions. Prolonged contact can create heat, so lift the grinder away often and check the nail between passes. Avoid treating a fixed number of seconds as safe for every nail and dog, and stop and ask a groomer if you are unsure.
How do I charge it?
Charge it with the supplied USB cable. Follow the instructions that come with your unit for charging and care, and contact us if anything is unclear before you order. Charge it before your first session so you can work calmly and slowly, without rushing to finish a nail.
What are the replacement wheels for?
The diamond grinding wheel detaches from the head, so you can swap it for a fresh one. Choose Grinder only, Grinder + 1 replacement wheel or Grinder + 3 replacement wheels.
What are the delivery and return terms?
For in-stock orders, normal dispatch is 1 to 3 business days, followed by estimated transit of 5 to 8 business days to the U.S. or 7 to 12 business days to Canada. The 30-day money-back guarantee covers the grinder from delivery; replacement grinding wheels are not covered. Read the return conditions before ordering.
